This book gives an important account of the struggles and contradictions middle eastern societies/communities have to deal with in terms of sexual liberation and women's rights. It is thought provoking and allows the reader to get a broader perspective in the vast and controversial topic of sexual freedom, misogyny and human rights in Muslim Societies, that is often discussed only between the two extremes of culture bashing and cultural relativism.The author discusses the above mentioned topics not only by telling her own personal story and her own struggles, but also by giving a close (and shocking) look at the political and religious allies that sexual oppression and misogyny in the Middle East have.It is easily and quickly readable, but at times hard to digest, as the topic is a rather tough one. Still it is worth a read. The understanding of the importance of sexual freedom (for both women and men, straight and gay), that may people still lack, may one day lead to more courage and more resolout demands in the discussion of basic rights that are still denied to many, and to a long overdue progress, not only for women, but for all muslim societies.
